Queen's Hornet 66 - 55 Newry Oaks Newry opened the new season with a disappointing defeat at home to Queen's Hornets. The young Belfast side came out of the blocks quickly, building up a 13 point lead in the first quarter. In the second, Newry came back into the game through the strong scoring of Nigel Murphy and Paul Convery and where within 8 at the half.

In the third quarter, Newry continued the comeback with Paul Crawley providing the scoring and Peter Clarke and Anthony Green providing the defence. In the fourth Newry drew level with 3 minutes left on a Rory O'Keeffe 3 pointer, but tiredness and a lack of focus in the last few minutes allowed Queen's to score some big baskets and pull away.

A disappointing start for new coach David McKeown, but as the team gets used to their new systems, better things are in store
