Newry Oaks 57 - Queens Hornets 55 (OT) The Oaks Recruitment sponsored Newry team won their second game of the season in overtime after a fiercely competitive game with Queens. The game was close from the tip off, with never more than 5 points separating the sides in regulation.

Scott Raffertys shooting was a highlight for Newry as he knocked down crucial shots throughout the game. The inside tandem of Nigel Murphy and Peter Clarke pounded the Queens' forwards all game and weighed in with vital scores.

The first quarter set the tone for the game with both sides playing tenacious defence. Newry's inside - outside game was working well with Paul Crawley pulling the strings at point guard. One point separated the teams at the end of the first quarter, with Newry leading 14 - 13.

Newry pulled away slightly in the second quarter with Pete O'Neill and Collie McEvoy providing the scoring and Paul Woods and Rory O'Keeffe keeping up the defensive pressure. At the half Newry's lead was 25 - 20.

Queens started to claw back the deficit in the third quarter and despite great defence from John Ward, Queens pulled within 3, 30 - 27.

Queens again dug deep in the final quarter. With Newry up by four points with 30 seconds left, the game seemed won, but good pressure from the Queens men forced turnovers and they dramatically tied the game on the buzzer. 43 -43.

Newry took control in overtime with Rafferty, Clarke and Murphy all providing big time scores. Newry lead by 7 with two minutes left, but despite a spirited Queens comeback, Newry held on to win by 2.
