Newry Oaks dominate Carrick

Newry 66 - 36 Carrickfergus
Nights like this are starting to become more frequent for Scott Rafferty in his young career. And the 16 year old is sure to have many more. Rafferty's 24 points helped lead the Oaks Recruitment sponsored Newry team to a rout of Carrickfergus. The young shooting guard is quickly turning in to one of Newry's main scoring threats and his on court maturity belies his youth.
Newry started sluggishly enough in this game, scoring only 7 points in the first quarter to lead 7 - 5. The second quarter was where the team came to life. Behind Rafferty's shooting and the good inside work of Rory O'Keeffe and Collie McEvoy, Newry started to stretch the visitors. Paul Crawley was running the point with his usual all action style, scoring several times on the break to lead Newry to a 30 - 16 half time lead.
The second half was more of the same. Carrick found some rhythm in the third quarter, but with Peter Clarke and Nigel Murphy keeping the offence going and some fantastic defence from Fu Fapito, Newry finished the quarter 44 - 30 up. The final quarter was shooting practice for Newry with Rafferty, Crawley and Peter O'Neill all adding to the score while great defence from Simon Ward, Paul Woods and Paul Convery helped keep Carrick to only 6 points in the quarter. Newry eventually ran out easy winners.
