Newry U19 Lose to Magherafelt Titans

E-mail Print PDF
Second game of the season saw Newry?s U19 boys defeated as the Magherafelt Titans claimed the game in the final three minutes. Newry again opened the scoring and by the end of the first quarter were holding a solid lead. The second quarter saw the return of Newry?s Scott Rafferty who played impressively throughout the forty-minute match notching up a superb tally of 23 points. The Magherafelt side who defeated Newry both home and away last season were seeing a different team this year and with some skilful basketball Newry and Magherafelt jostled for the lead throughout the second and third quarter.

An unfortunate ankle injury took Ryan Mallon out of the game in the third quarter, this left Newry with a two-point lead to protect while missing a key player. The end of quarter scores edged into Newry?s earlier lead and a run of eight unanswered points by Magherafelt?s A. Hamilton in the final three minutes proved too much for Newry.

This close and exciting game ended with a final score of M-felt 62, Newry 54.

Team Scores:
Scott Rafferty 23
John Ward 9
Ryan Mallon 8
Alex Irwin 6
Shaun Fearon 4
Sean Brady 3
Ryan Lennon 1
Paul Fleming, Simon Ward, Chris Mc Kevitt and Cathal Fegan.
